During the 1990s, Alkoomi introduced three super-premium wines using small parcels of the best quality grapes from the extensive vineyard. The wines are matured in selected French oak which gently enhances the wine flavours to produce styles of wine that cellar well but can be enjoyed when young. Each of these wines takes its name from one of the magnificent eucalypt (gum) trees that are present on the property.

Jarrah 2001: A dry winter and cool spring, together with early summer rains, led to an excellent vintage that has been rated as one of the regions best. Our old Shiraz block produced naturally low yields ideal for Jarrah shiraz and has resulted in a wine displaying complexity and finesse. Ripe dark fruits integrate with vanillin, coffee oak notes. On the palate the wine emerges with ripe sweet dark berry fruits that are entwined in soft tannins and smoky oak. There is great intensityand persistance of finish.

Drink now - 2010

Jarrah 2000: A block of Shiraz vines, now over 30 years old, consistently produces intense and elegantly structured wines with the ability to age for many years. Traditional fermentation in open vats and maturation in new French oak casks for 18 months provide additional complexity and finesse rarely found in Australian Shiraz. The very cool 2000 vintage has produced an elegant and tightly structured wine with flavours of wild raspberry, cherry and plum, complemented by spicy oak.

This wine has the ability to age gracefully for many years.

Wandoo 1999: Each year, a small plot of mature Semillon vines produces exceptional fruit with intense aromas and mouth-filling flavours. The outstanding 1999 vintage along with sophisticated winemaking techniques, including partial fermentation in new French oak casks and aging on lees, have produced a wine of great complexity, length and elegance. Aromas of guava, lemon, pear and spice lead to a rich powerful palate with a fine acid backbone and supportive oak. Attractive in its youth because of its delicacy and freshness, this wine will continue to develop more richness and depth with up to five years cellaring.
